Spring 2024 FoDH Community Meeting

Our Spring 2024 FoDH meeting was a well attended event held at the Pavilion. Issues discussed were successful repairs to the cobbles and iron fencing, our plans to list Florence Street greenspace as a community asset, a neighbourhood watch scheme for the area plus much more. Keep an eye out for our next meeting.

Community Medicine Festival

FoDH had a stand at the Summer 2023 Community Medicine Festival in Heaton Norris Park. There was lots of interest in the old photos of the conservation area plus we had a visit from Stockport MP, Nav Mishra.

Saving the Paving Campaign

On 7 November 2022 residents returned home from work to discover that Stockport Council had ripped up over 100 square metres of historic stone paving and begun replacing it with modern flags. This was despite, in their own words, ‘the area [being] notable for having a substantial amount of surviving historic street surfaces’. Saving the Paving’s goal is the repatriation of the original historic paving. See our Saving the Paving page for details.

Save St Mary’s RC School
UPDATE Mar 2023 – School Saved!

Great News! It was announced in January that St Mary’s School was under threat of closure. The staff and pupils have run a fantastic campaign resulting in the decision being overturned. The school will remain open and continue to be a vital and much loved part of our Dodge Hill community.
